The winners of the Husband & Wife competition, sponsored by Molloy’s Home Bakery, were Margaret and Charlie Brennan with 72 nett. In second place were Mary and Pierce Mellett with 74.5 and Anne Marie and Pat Cradock from Gort were in third place. On Saturday the competition for the Centenary Cup, sponsored by the Neilan family, took place and the winner was Detta  Cox with a great score of 42 points.  In second place in the ladies’ section was Linda Maxwell with 41 points. Mary Seymour won the gross prize with 34 points and Sheila Fallon was third with 37 points. Kevin Henry won the men’s section with 39 points (back 9). Kevin Connaughton was second with 79 points also. Alan Craven won the gross prize with 33 points and Jack Sharkey was in third place with 38 points. The winner of the ladies’ Tuesday competition, sponsored by Keenan Butchers, was Mary Lalor with 72 nett. Paula Keane was in second place with 73. The winner of the Open Friday competition was Barry Steed from Tuam with 39 points (back 9). Kevin Connaughton was in second place with 39 points also.  Kate Walshe won the ladies’ competition with 36 points.

On Thursday there was a wonderful gathering of past lady captains from all over Connaught with almost 130 entries in the competition. Our own Kay Ruane was the overall winner with 38 points retaining the title which she won in Loughrea last year. Máire Ní Mháille from Oughterard was second with 37 points. Mary Madden from Ballinasloe won the gross prize with 27 points. Bernadette Jordan from Mountbellew was in third place with 35 points (back 9) and Noreen O’Grady was in fourth place with 35 points also. The winner of the Over 55s on Wednesday was Tom Costello. Ollie Hannon was in second place and Charlie Brennan was in third place. Detta Cox won the ladies’ competition. Margaret Brennan was in second place and Marguerite Farrell was in third place.
