One of the highlights of the year for the club was the winning of the Connaught final by the Ladies Senior Foursomes Team in Athlone on Friday.  They played Galway and had a comprehensive victory winning two matches and the third match was called in. The team members were Sinead Benedetti & Mary Lalor, Mary Seymour & Paula Keane, Ruth Lennon & Roisin Timothy. The substitutes were Roisin and Rosemary O’Brien. The non-playing team captain was Marina Dolan and the assistant captain was Marie McManus. The Chairman of the Connaught Branch of the ILGU Mary Kennedy presented the Connaught Shield and Pennant to Captain Marina Dolan who accepted on behalf of the team. The team progress to the All Ireland finals in Monkstown Golf Club, Cork over the 24th to 27th September and they will have the good wishes of all the members of the club.

The winner of the Sunday competition, sponsored by Collins Boyd Engineering, was Michael O’Connor with 42 points. Tom Higgins Junior was in second place. David Hill won the gross prize with 37 gross points and Kevin Kenny was in third place with 40 points. Keith Coyle from Athlone won the Open Friday competition with 41 points. Bob McCormack was in second place with 37 points. Sinead Benedetti won the ladies Tuesday competition with 38 points. Joan Moran was in second place with 36 points (back 9) and  President Joan O’Gara was in third place with 36 points also. The winner of the Over 55s on Thursday was Michael O’Connor. Tommy Fallon was in second place and John O’Donnell was in third place. Jackie Maxwell won the ladies’ competition. Margaret Brennan was in second place and Mary Pender was in third place. On next Tuesday the ladies’ White Elephant competition takes place and the Club Rossie Classic takes place on Friday week 12^th September.

Three club competitions have reached the final stages. Charlie Farrell & Paul Hoare take on Seamus Fallon & Tom Judge in the final of the men’s fourball competition sponsored by Seamus O’Reilly Plumbing. Noreen O’Grady & Sean Brennan meet Marina Dolan & Tom Costello in the final of the mixed foursomes competition sponsored by J.J’s Bar (Caitlin McConn). Sean Brennan and Pat O’Brien battle it out for the Smithwick’s Cup sponsored by Keen Print.
