The golf season kicked off with the traditional Drive in on Sunday 20th February.

The traditional Drive-in took place on Sunday 20th February at 2pm and was kindly sponsored by Gleeson’s Town House and Restaurant. Three riveting and lengthy drives were taken under the pressure of crowds and cameras by President June Halliday, Captain Charlie Farrell and Lady Captain Mary Lalor. Spectators and members watched on as their drives soared down the fairway off the first tee getting the golfing season off to a flying start. With a staggering ninety six members taking part in the scramble which commenced immediately after the Drive-in the atmosphere on the golf club grounds was electric. Teams of three headed up the course to their designated tee boxes and anticipated the shot gun start. Weather was kind to start but, inevitably, the rain came down. However this did not dampen the scores of our winners, both teams bringing in fantastic scores. Speeches commenced at 5.30pm by President June Halliday, Captain Charlie Farrell and Lady Captain Mary Lalor followed by presentations to prize winners by sponsor Mr. Eamonn Gleeson. Prize winners wished the officers and their committees the very best of luck for 2011.  Well done to all prize winners.
