The winner of Captain Albert Looby’s Prize was Bob McCormack with a great score of 134 net. In second place was Seamus Mulryan with 136. Enda Daly won the gross prize with 145. Michael Connaughton was in third place with 140 and Seamus Mulherne was in fourth place with 140 also. Andy Lawlor was in fifth place. Noel Sharkey won the 2nd gross prize. Seamus Fallon won the prize for the 1st 18 holes with 66 and Cathal McConn won the prize for the 2nd 18 holes with 69. Brian Campbell won the past captain’s prize with 142. Joe Finnegan Jnr. won the captain’s prize to the juniors and Matthew Ryan Clarke won the junior’s 9-hole competition. Marguerite Farrell won the captain’s prize to the ladies. Mary Pender was in second place and Ruth Kilduff was in third place.

The presentation took place in the clubhouse on Sunday night. Lady Captain Bernie Browne and President Joan O’Gara complimented Albert on his contribution to the club. They both spoke of his easy manner and constant good humour as he got the work done efficiently. Albert thanked President Joan O’Gara and Lady Captain Bernie Browne for their support and cooperation during the year. He thanked the management committee, all the members of his committee, the subcommittees, captains and members of inter-club teams. He said that it was a very positive year for the club as there were almost a hundred new members and the club had two teams competing in the final stages of the Connaught championship at the weekend in Strandhill Golf Club. He wished both the Junior Cup team and the Pierce Purcell teams the best of luck. Matt Rogers and friends provided the entertainment for the night and everyone agreed that it was indeed a memorable night.

The winner of the ladies’ Tuesday competition, sponsored by Galaxy Hair & Beauty, was Brigid Kyne with 71 net. In second place was Mary Pender with 72 and Sandra Kelly was third with 73. The winner of the Over 55s on Thursday was John McGrath.  Tom Gilleran was in second place and Charlie McDonnell was in third place. Mary O’Gara won the ladies’ competition. Aileen McConn was second and June Halliday was in third place. The competition for the Centenary Cup, for ladies and men, sponsored by the Neilan Family, is scheduled for Sunday but due to the numbers involved in inter-club competitions members are advised to watch the notice boards for any alterations to fixtures.

Next weekend is a very significant one for our club and we wish good luck to our Junior Cup team and our Pierce Purcell team that competes in the  Connaught semi-finals on Saturday.
