The winner of the Woolmerchant’s Cup, run in conjunction with the Lamb Festival and sponsored by Niall Martin, was P.J. Moran with 68 nett. In second place with 70 (back 9) was Seamus Byrne. David Hill won the gross prize with 74 and Michael Connaughton was in third place with 70 also.The winner of the Open Friday competition was Mike Roache with 45 points. In second place was Paul McNally with 40 points. The winner of the ladies’ competition was Lady Captain Bernie Browne with 32 points. The winner of the Tuesday stroke competition, sponsored by Vicky Crosby Tax Assist Accountants, was Yvonne Waldron with a net 69. In second place was Ruth Kilduff with 71 and in third place was Carmel Walker with 73. The winner of the Over 55s on Thursday was Sergio Benedetti. Seamus Mulherne was in second place and Bob McCormack was in third place. Bretta McCarthy won the ladies’ competition. Catherine Mulryan was in second place and Margaret Kennedy was in third place. The over 140 entries in President Joan O’Gara’s prize to the men is down to half after the weekend as all the first round of match-play is completed.
