The men’s 18 hole stroke competition, held on Sunday, was for the Wool Merchants’ Cup and was sponsored by the Roscommon Lamb Festival. The winner was Andrew Prior with a 62; 2nd, Willie Doyle, 67; Gross, Tom Reddington, 75; 3rd, Seamus Byrne, 67; Junior, Simon Walker, 67. There was also a ladies’ 9 hole competition, sponsored by the Roscommon Lamb Festival, which was won by Patricia Donnelly, 21 pts; 2nd, Mary Lennon, 20 pts; 3rd, Shelia Fallon, 20pts.

The results of the men’s seniors’ competition held on Thursday were: 1st, Gerry Finn, 39 pts; Cat 1, Jim Tunney, 35 pts; Cat 2, Charlie Brennan, 34 pts; Cat 3, Michael Tierney 38 pts. The ladies’ seniors’ was also played on Thursday with Margaret Egan taking first place; 2nd, Maria Benedetti; 3rd, Kay Ruane, 4th June Halliday.
The Spring Team Challenge for men has now reached the final stage. Eric Godfrey, Seamus O’Donghaile and Charlie Brennan will play Dan O’Brien, Michael Dolan and Micheal Healy in the final.
Members are encouraged to take part in the Nine-hole Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews (R&A) Championship. The qualifying round for men will take place on the 6th May and a qualifying round for ladies takes place on the 12th May. One of the aims of this competition is to promote nine-hole qualifying competitions.
