Congratulations to our Junior Cup team who qualified for the Connacht semi-final at Portumna Golf Club over the weekend. The qualifying round took place on Saturday with the top eight teams qualifying for match play on Sunday. Each of the teams play a quarter final and the four winners play a local semi-final with a similar format in the north of the province. The two winners at each location qualifying for the Connacht semi-finals which will be played at Roscommon golf club on the weekend of August 10th/12th 2018. There are five players on each team who play a singles against an opponent.

Cian O’Connor, Fionn Hoare Alan Connaughton, Ian Gannon and Brian Feeley took on Oughterard and qualified for the afternoon session with a bit to spare. In the afternoon Cian O Connor, Fionn Hoare, Francis Ferguson, Brian Feely and Tom Greally Jr went to battle for the club against Galway Bay. Early signs were positive and as the afternoon progressed signs indicated that we would have a team playing on home soil in August.

Fionn Hoare claimed the first scalp on the 11th. Cian O Connor was ahead all through and held his nerve to win 2up. Brian Feeley won 4 and 3 and the other two match were called in with Roscommon comfortable in both.

Well done to Captain Cathal McConn his Vice captain’s Kevin Henry and Charlie Farrell, the caddies and supporters who attended on the occasion.
