NO LUCK IN BARTON SHIELD OR SENIOR CUP FOR OUR TEAMS IN ALL IRELAND FINALS

It was a momentous week for the club in the AIG All Ireland finals in Douglas this week. We played against Co Louth in both the Barton Shield and the Senior Cup. First up was our Barton Shield team who were in action on Thursday morning. In good conditions our pairings of Richie Evans and Alan Hill were defeated by Evan Farrell and Harley Phipps while Simon Walker and Fionn Hoare were defeated by Gerard Dunne and Daniel O’Brien. Warrenpoint were the eventual winners of the title.

On Saturday morning we faced Co Louth again in the Senior Cup. The conditions could hardly have been worse as the match started with torrential rain and wind that was almost hurricane force. However the conditions improved as the day went on. The teams were well matched all the way. Simon Walker defeated Harley Phipps while Alan Hill defeated Evan Farrell on the 20th hole. Richie Evans lost to Gerard Dunne on the 16th while Alan Connaughton was defeated by Louis Goodman. In the final match David Hill put up a magnificent performance coming back from 5 down at one stage only to lose on the 17th. It was a battling performance from one and all and well done to the players and captain Enda Daly and his assistants for their hard work throughout the week.
