The Ladies’ Senior Foursomes won the Connacht final in Ballinrobe last Saturday. They defeated Castlebar by winning two matches and the final match was halved. They are now through to the All-Ireland finals at Malone Golf Club, at the end of September. The winning pairs were: Sinead Benedetti and Ciara Ryan, Ruth Lennon and Mary Lalor, Paula Quinn and Rosemary O’Brien, Reserves, Mary Seymour and Paula Keane. The team managers are Linda Maxwell and Noreen O’Grady.

 

Away from the excitement and thrills of the All-Ireland Hurling final, where the Galway hurlers emerged victorious, the weekend competition took place with more than sixty golfers playing. The men’s competition, played on Saturday and Sunday, was won by Francis Ferguson with 42 pts; 2nd, Jim Grogan, 40 pts; 3rd,  Michael Keane, 39 pts; Gross, Alan Craven, 35 pts; Junior, Tom Higgins, 38 pts.

 

The ladies’ competition last week was a fundraiser for Breast Cancer Research Ireland. The format was Scotch Foursomes and was won by Mary Seymour and Paula Keane on 39 pts; 2nd, Joan O’Gara and Bernie Browne, 36 pts; Gross, Sheila Fallon and Mary Lalor, 24 pts.

 

The men’s seniors’ was won by Jim Finn with 34 pts; Cat 1, Charlie McDonnell, 34 pts; Cat 2, Seamus Mulhern, 34 pts; Cat 3, Sean Brennan, 34 pts.

The ladies’ seniors’ results: 1st, Margaret Brennan; 2nd, Evelyn Bruen; 3rd, Geraldine Hoban; 4th, Marguerite Farrell.
