The Roscommon Golf Club Classic took place on Saturday and Sunday last. The Classic was a great success with over 60 teams taking part. Roscommon Golf Club would like to thank all the members, members from other golf clubs in County Roscommon and golfers from further afield, who played in the competition. Thanks to all the people who sponsored tee boxes, made a contribution and donated prizes, and thanks to our main sponsor P.J. Donnellan Engine Spares. Also, a special thanks to all the members and committee members who worked to organise and run the competition over the two days.

Congratulations to the winning team who had a marvellous score of 96 points. The team comprised of Tony Brophy (Castlerea GC), Margaret McGuinness (Strokestown GC), Frank McGuinness (Rathcore GC) and Colm Savage (Rathcore GC).

The results of the ladies’ competition last week which was sponsored by Town and Country Interiors were: 1st, Sheila Fallon, 37 pts; 2nd, Joan O’Gara, 36 pts; 3rd, Mary Seymour, 36 pts. The first of the weekly 9-hole qualifying competitions was won by Jackie Mc Cormack with 17 pts. The ladies team had a win over Athlone in the Mary McKenna competition.

Weekly Open Monday Competition 29th May, men’s results: 1st, Kevin Kenny (17), 43 pts; 2nd, Fionn Hoare (10), 41 pts.

Results of the men’s seniors’ competition: 1st, Michael Dolan, 35 pts; Cat 1, John McGrath, 34 pts; Cat 2, Charlie Brennan, 30 pts; Cat 3, Tommie Fallon, 32 pts.

 

The President’s prize has reached the semi-final stage. John Walker will play David Kearney and Dan O’Brien will play Seamus Fallon, for a place in the final. The semi-final will be played on the 7th June.
